DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (NPN): The Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) delivered a stellar performance at the 2nd Meghalaya Open Taekwondo Championship, held at Laban Sports Club, Shillong from May 15 to 17, 2026. The contingent returned home with an impressive haul of 33 medals, comprising 13 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze.
The 38-member Nagaland squad featured athletes from Sports Academy Kohima, Chumoukedima District Taekwondo Association (CDTA), Kohima District Taekwondo Association (KDTA) and Wokha District Taekwondo Association (WDTA). The team was guided by coaches Visabiu Peseyie and Santsuthung Ngullie, with Ram Bahadur serving as team manager and T. Alem Aier accompanying as NTA official.
Nagaland’s gold medallists included – Kumchun Kikon (U-18 kg); Shiusuthong (U-38 kg); Mahei Nren (U-23 kg); Shiuthong (U-35 kg); Sudeh Lamliu (U-33 kg); Huthuka Dennis Kinimi (U-37 kg); Humuyo Chizo (U-57 kg); Khunou P. (U-61 kg); Pauziehube Herie (U-45 kg); Wonchibemo R. Ngullie (U-45 kg); S. Bovito Chophy (U-63 kg); Vilabizo Nagi (U-73 kg); and Veisalu Dozo (U-62 kg).
Silver medals were won by athletes including Samzailungbe Hega, Keyichangbe Hega, Keyizieteibe Zelui, Kumkiu, Senthano L. Tungoe, Nzangbeni C. Kikon, Avungi N. Ngullie, Thungben Lotha, Randanbemo Z. Kikon, Andrew N. Lotha, Kezevino Seyie and Sonpari Kumari.
Bronze medalists were Chumchanbeni L. Tungoe, Vanya Leah Kinghen, Lichibeni R. Lotha, Ajanthung A. Ezung, Senjumbeni Y. Kithan, Anguvika Jimomi, Elizabeth Ezung and Menuovilie.
Adding to the team’s success, coach Visabiu Peseyie was honoured with the Best Coach Award of the championship for his outstanding guidance and contribution.
The NTA expressed gratitude to the Director of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, as well as the presidents of KDTA, CDTA, and WDTA, for their active support and commitment to promoting sports among the youth.
