Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) Kohima through its media cell on Friday expressed concern over the “irresponsible and moral conduct” of the elected legislators and said that it was high time for the elected legislators to realize their responsibilities and introspect on their conduct and moral values.
NTAC said it held a meeting at Kohima on July 13, 2017 and had a threadbare discussion about the prevailing state of affairs in the state. It stated that the activities of legislators during the tenure of the 12th NLA have surpassed all moral values of an elected legislator.
NTAC observed that elected legislators seemed to have totally forgotten their responsibilities for which they were elected. It said they were swayed away by lust for money and power causing the state machineries out of gear and of causing confusion among the general public.
NTAC asked the elected legislators to remember that people elected them to work for the welfare of the people and not for money and power.
Reminding that they were the lawmakers and highest policy-making body in the state, the NTAC said the post of any elected member was vested with high responsibility and people expected high moral values from every elected leader.
Meanwhile, the NTAC said it was appalled by the casual attitude of governor in solving the ongoing political crisis in the state. It said the governor must realize that immediate initiative and intervention was necessary to avoid any untoward, unpleasant consequences.
As the head of the state, NTAC said the governor was vested with high obligation and responsibility under the Constitution of India. It stated that the governor cannot remain a mute spectator when the state was facing political crisis.
In this regard, NTAC urged the governor to apply his wisdom swiftly and discharge his constitutional obligations and responsibilities by taking preventive measures before the situation went out of control.
Further, NTAC expressed hope that the governor and the elected legislators would uphold the basic tenets of democracy and protect it from intrusion of any autocratic motives.
