Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) demands lifting restriction on NH-29 stretch

Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) has demanded total lifting of restriction on vehicular movement on NH-29 along Chathe (Patkai) Bridge towards Kukidolong Jharnapani (Paglapahar) stretch.
In a press release, NTUCT president Lhousito Khro and general secretary Longshi Kikon stated that the NH-29 stretch, the major lifeline to the state Capital and beyond, had remained paralysed since July 4, 2023 rockslide incident.

Expressing sympathy for the loss of precious lives and damages caused due to the “reckless and undesirable standard workmanship” of the NHIDCL, the union has, however, contended that imposing road blockade was not a tangible solution.
NTUCT asserted that restriction was causing immense hardship and trauma to the commuters, who had to travel on that stretch at its own risk. “We remained steadfast and committed to stand and voice for the welfare of the common public,” the union stated.

It may be recalled that the DC Chumoukedima notified partially opening of the stretch from July 18,
2023 subject to the certain conditions such as signing an undertaking that the “commuter is aware of the risk involved and is undertaking the travel at one’s own risk.”
Reiterating its demand for immediately lifting the restriction, NTUCT also demanded that agencies take proper safety measures in order to avoid such situation in the future.
