NU in Bharati Foundation Scholarship Scheme

Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises, with its aim to provide quality education to underprivileged children in rural India will set up 500 Satya Bharti Primary Schools and 50 Senior Secondary cum Vocational Training across the villages of the country. This was announced recently during the inauguration of a Satya Bharti School by the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Village Lordi Dejgara in Jodhpur District of Rajasthan.
According to a PR Coordinator release, Rajan Bharti Mittal, managing director, Bharti Enterprises announced on the occasion that the promoters of Bharti and its associates have committed a corpus of Rs 200 crore for Bharti Foundation’s projects, in particular, for the Satya Bharti School Programme’s roll out across the country. It aims to make high-quality education to the underprivileged, out-of-school and migrant children especially girl child. Currently 161 Satya Bharti Primary Schools are operational across the length and breadth of the country with more than 13,000 children and over 560 teachers on their rolls. In addition, Bharti Foundation has also initiated and set up 26 Bharti Computer Centres and Bharti Library and Activity Centres across the country in association with organisations like Pratham Infotech, Kalakar Trust and Adharshila.
Meanwhile, Bharti Foundation’s Scholarship Programme which was introduced in three educational institutions of the North East including Assam Institute of Management, Gauhati University and IIT Guwahati in 2007 has now been extended to four more institutions of the region. The new educational institutions which will be covered under the Scheme are North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS) Manipur University, Nagaland University (NU) and NIT Agartala.
