Nagaland University Kohima Campus (NUKC) conducted a program in observance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) on August 22, a nationwide campaign initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, to address the growing concern of substance abuse. The event was held at the Ladies Common Room, NUKC, with the objective of raising awareness and combating drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, pro-vice Chancellor, NUKC, professor N. Venuh emphasized the importance of willpower and the need for individuals to avoid indulging in substance abuse, which severely deteriorates health. Venuh encouraged the NUKC community to foster healthy discussions and participate in co-curricular activities to promote overall well-being. He also urged the gathering to prioritize sharing, caring, and supporting one another, rather than suppressing emotions, which can lead to depression and anxiety.
In his opening remark, chief medical officer (SAG), NUKC, Dr. Takujungla Jamir highlighted the hazardous impact of drug abuse on both physical and mental health. Dr. Jamir stressed the importance of creating awareness and providing a safe support system for individuals struggling with substance abuse. In a significant announcement, she revealed the opening of a Counselling Cell at the University Health Centre, set to operate in collaboration with the Department of Psychology.
The program also featured student speeches by president, NURSF, Sakilur Rahman, and Department of CSE, NUSU, Micah Diamai, who shared their perspectives on the issue of drug abuse.
The programme was chaired by department of information technology Dr. Teisovi Angami and vote of thanks by department of linguistics Dr. Arenkala Ao. A special number was performed by Menuotuolie James.
