NU Lumami workshop on IPR

Nagaland University, headquarters Lumami, IPR cell organised a one-day workshop on “Importance of IPR in academic institutions” in commemoration of 25 years celebration of Nagaland University on May 29. 

A press release from NU, Lumami, PRO Peter Ki stated that, prof. Pardeshi Lal, vice-chancellor, congratulated the organisers for making a good beginning and hoped that it will be taken forward. Prof. Pardeshi Lal dwelt on the history of the evolution of IPR since copyright was granted for the first time in 1474. He then pointed out that India acceded to the 1883 Paris Convention in 1998 and highlighted the difference between discovery and invention, stating that not every discovery can be patented. He also talked about the process of applying for patents, and how patent protection was granted for a limited period, generally 20 years, from the filing date of the application. 
Short speeches were delivered by Dr. T. Zarenthung, HoD of Economics, prof. Sangyu Yaden, dean, School of Sciences, prof. M.K. Sinha, dean, School of Social Sciences and Dr. Abemo, registrar. 
Earlier in the programme chaired by assistant professor of Botany, Dr. A. Paul, invocation was led by Hoto N. Achumi, welcome note by prof. B. Kilangla Jamir, dean, RDC, while prof. Dipak Sinha, nodal officer, IPR cell and convener of the workshop briefly highlighted the purpose of the workshop. 
The inaugural programme was followed by two technical sessions, where in the first session, the talks were delivered by Ilika Zhimo, NEIST Jorhat and prof. Purna Baruah, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. In the second session, Dr. R.L. Goswamee, NEIST, Jorhat and Dr. Nurul A. Choudhury, asst. Professor of Chemistry delivered the talks. Dr. Pranjal Bharali, asst. Professor of Environmental Science, presented a summary.
