NU observes Swachh Bharat Diwas; honours safai mitras

DIMAPUR

Nagaland University (NU) observed Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2 at the Administrative Complex Conference Hall, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and honouring the safai mitras for their dedicated year-round service.
The programme was graced by Prof. M.K. Sinha, Senior Professor and Vice Chancellor in-charge, as chief guest. Peter Ki, PRO of NU, presided over the event, while Dr. Likhase Sangtam, chairperson of the Swachhata Hi Seva Committee, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the activities undertaken from September 17 to October 1.
A short video presentation showcased key initiatives including pledge-taking, inauguration of the Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU), plastic collection drives, mass cleanliness efforts by departments, a rally, the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath Shramdaan” campaign, and health screening for safai mitras.
Mannon Konyak from the Department of Economics presented a Hindi song. The chief guest distributed personal protection equipment kits to the safai mitras as a gesture of appreciation.
Prof. Sinha, in his address, lauded the efforts of the sanitation workers and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Lobeno Mozhui, member of the Swachhata Committee. It may be noted that Deuri (Mr. Fresher 2025), Methasunu Luho (Miss Fresher 2025), and Hüralü (Miss Fresher 2024) served as student ambassadors for the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative.
