NU Prof gets ‘Promising Indian Anthropologist’ award

Professor and head, department of Anthropology, Nagaland University, Lumami campus, Dr. Somenath Bhattacharjee was awarded as the “Promising Indian Anthropologist” on August 13 at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar during the World Anthropology Congress 2023 conducted from August 9 to 14.


He was awarded by the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Arjun Munda ji. Dr. Somenath Bhattacharjee is originally from Kolkata and is associated with the teaching and research in Anthropology from 2010.


Earlier, he was in the Assam University Diphu campus as a faculty of Anthropology. Recently in last May, he has joined as the first Professor of Anthropology in Nagaland University. He is expertise in the studies of tribal cultural practices, indigenous knowledge system, ethno-ecology, tribal health. He has more than 80 research papers in the Scopus indexed and UGC listed reputed journals as well as in edited books. Dr. Somenath Bhattacharjee is the author of 6 books published by National and International publishers.
