Nagaland University (NU), Kohima has been selected to host one of four Incubation Centres in Northeast India under a central government project. The initiative is sponsored by North Eastern Council, Shillong and implemented by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati.
Under the project, top 50 performers will receive startup grants of up to Rs. 5 lakh. NU has been chosen as part of the initiative to promote entrepreneurship in educational institutions across the North East.
NU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik expressed pride over the university’s selection, calling it a recognition of NU’s commitment to innovation and inclusive development.
He said NU looks forward to working with stakeholders from government, industry, and academia.
Incubation Centre Coordinator, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, said activities will include mentorship, workshops, ideathons, bootcamps, and hackathons over the next six months.
Dr. Bordoloi also said the programme aims to build entrepreneurial mindset among youth, including those from remote areas, through awareness camps.
NU will maintain trainee profiles, support logistic needs, align with government schemes, and build a knowledge base for regional entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship will also be integrated into NU’s curriculum.
For FY 2024–25, 145 beneficiaries were selected through 30 centres, with 44 assigned to NU. Of these, 18 are from Nagaland, 16 from Arunachal Pradesh, 6 from Assam, and 4 from Manipur. Onboarding is set for July 2025.
