Y Nuklu Phom receives ‘Changemakers for Commons’ award for conservation

Team Leader of LEMSACHENLOK, a community-based organization in Longleng district, Y Nuklu Phom has been honored with the ‘Changemakers for Commons’ award at The Commons Convening, held at the Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi on August 27.


Nuklu is also a recipient of the Whitley Award for biodiversity conservation. This recognition was given to him for his exemplary grassroots work in community conservation, specifically for his efforts in transitioning the community of Yaongyimchen village in Longleng district from hunting to wildlife conservation, which has significantly contributed to the conservation of Amur falcons.


Nuklu was one of the seven individuals from India shortlisted for this prestigious recognition. The Commons Convening event, which runs from 27-30 August, is organized by several notable partners including Common Ground, Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), UNDP India, and Collaborating for Resilience. The event aims to elevate the significance of commons in public discourse, promote civic engagement, and inspire collective action.
