Nagaland Users’ Network (NUN) DIC Jakhama in collaboration with the Science department of St. Joseph College Jakhama, organized a one day awareness program on HIV & AIDS, TB, Hepatitis C, drug abuses and also conducted a free medical check-up drive on October 3 at St. Joseph College Jakhama.
A press release from NUN DIC Jakhama stated that the program was organized with an aim to create awareness among the students about Hep C, HIV & AIDS and TB.
The release stated that former president of NUN, Ketho, gave a powerful message on HIV & AIDS, Hep C and drug abuse.
Ketho said HIV & AIDS prevalence in Nagaland was at 1.15 % which was alarming and a matter of serious concern for all citizens.
While acknowledging the activities and works undertaken by the various NGOs, he said there was still much to be done in order to prevent further spread of the diseases.
Project coordinator IDUF, Renbothung Tongoe, also briefed the gathering on TB and encouraged and motivated the students to work and contribute whole heartedly in educating society about the disease.
During the free medical check-up, HIV & AIDS testing was also conducted by a team of medical staff — Dr. Kenei Medom, Dr. Moa Ozukum, Dr. Neimenuo Kuotsu, Dr. Adunu Richa, Dr.Neimetuonuo and DAPCU Kohima — and hundreds of students availed of the services.
An interactive session between the students and the speakers was also held. The event witnessed the participation of a number of speakers, social workers, medical staff, teachers, church leaders, stakeholders and students.
