Nagaland University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA) has strongly condemned the incident of harassment, threat and assault (on one faculty member) meted out to the students, faculty and staff of Nagaland University, without any provocation by some youths in an inebriated state on May 19 on the highway between Mokokchung and Nagaland University headquarters, Lumami.
A condemnation note by NUNSTA president Akiya Assumi and general secretary, Niyalo Apon stated that the hooligans waylaid the NU bus and vehicles belonging to faculty and staff. It stated that university authority has written to SDO (C ) Akuluto for necessary actions. It also stated that a person claiming to be an underground based in Dimapur had tendered apology on behalf of the unruly youth, who were demanding that complaint issued to the administration should be withdrawn. NUNSTA has appealed all right thinking citizens and organizations to condemn the incident, while also urging upon the competent authority of Nagaland University to take positive measures.
