Condemnations from various continued to pour in on the physical assault and “attempted rape” on a trainee nurse by DHD hospital staff on February 24.
GBUD: GB Union Dimapur (Sardar) expressed shock and outrage on the incident urged and appealed to the concerned district authorities to take stern punitive action against the perpetrator according to the law. The union also apprised the law enforcing agencies to apprehend immediately if there were other accomplice in the crime.
GBUD president W Kholie Kapfo and general secretary T Onen Jamir has also appealed to the health department to terminate service of the culprit as an exemplary order to curb future occurrences of this kind of “demonic crimes”.
The union also lauded the police department under supervision of Commissioner of Police for prompt action in arresting the main culprit. The union further shared solidarity with the victim and prayed for her speedy recovery.
DWT: Dimapur Watsu Telongjem (DWT) has expressed shock on the unfortunate and “despising act of assault” on a nursing student by an employee of Dimapur District Hospital.
DWT urged the law enforcing agency to give exemplary punishment as per the provision of law and said that the incident should serve as a wake-up call to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence and the need for a culture of respect and dignity for all.
AWO: Angami Women Organisation (AWO) said that acts of violence on women, particularly against young professionals who dedicate their lives to serving others, was deeply disturbing and have no place in a civilised society.
“Nurses and healthcare workers play an essential role in our communities who gives so much of themselves, and they deserve respect, protection and a safe working environment. Any attack on them is an attack on the very values of humanity and justice”, AWO said.
AWO urged the hospitals/institutions to put strong measures in place to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure and safeguard the rights and dignity of all healthcare workers. Meanwhile, the organization urged the authorities to take swift and stringent action against the perpetrators and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
CSU: Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) demanded that swift action must be taken by the authorities to arrest all the culprits involved in committing this horrifying act and should ensure that befitting punishment be awarded as per the existing law of the land. The union also extended solidarity with the victim and assured full support until justice is delivered to the victim.
CMA: Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) expressed outrage over the sexual harassment and discrimination of its member, a GNM-trainee at District Hospital, Dimapur.
CMA urged the law enforcing authorities to take effective and appropriate disciplinary actions against the perpetrator accordingly and also terminate the allege culprit from his services immediately.
It cautioned that any attempt to bail or bailing of the accused in anyway will not be accepted or tolerated and the concern individual or group will be doing it at his or her own risk and responsibilities.
CMA expect a prompt and transparent response to this serious matter and remain committed to foster a respectful and secure environment for women.
TUDCN: Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland (TUDCN) while condemning the incident has questioned the concerned authority and the administrative and law enforcing agency as to why there was no security within the premises.
The said that that it showed total failure and negligence in the part of the government to protect the innocent people even in day break. The union called upon the government to book both the culprit and give befitting punishment without delay and give justice to the victim and the family.
The union further reiterated that “both the names of the culprits should be brought to public domain”, so that in the future, this barbaric act should not be repeated. Failing to deliver justice in time, it warned that the government shall be held accountable for delay tactics. The union also extended full support and cooperation to the victim and her family till justice is delivered.
UANMA: The Unemployed Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) Association (UANMA) of Nagaland condemned the “reprehensible behavior” and extended solidarity with the victim. The association strongly appealed to the law enforcement authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly and take necessary legal actions against the perpetrator.
They also urged the concerned authorities of all hospitals and institutions to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future, by implementing stricter security protocols and providing support and counselling services to the affected individual.
KSUD: Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur (KSUD) has condemned the incident and appealed the concern authority to investigate thoroughly without bias and deliver swift justice to the victim and her family. The union further urged all public and private institutions to take necessary planned measures to tackle and prevent such undesirable occurrences in the future.
TNAI Tuensang Unit: Noting that the actions exhibited by the perpetrator (s) was not violent but a blatant disregard for human dignity and respect, the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) Tuensang Unit urged the law to take prompt and strict actions for punishing the perpetrator.
The unit also demanded that justice is served and that measures are taken to prevent such incidence from happening in the future.
DLEE: Dimapur Lotha Eloe Ekhung (DLEE) condemned the incident and demanded that the perpetrator (s) should be punished as per relevant sections of law. DLEE also appealed to the concerned nodal agency/agencies in assisting victim for counseling session to enable her to come out of the trauma.
KSUD: Konyak Students’ Union Dimapur (KSUD) while condemning the incident, appealed to all the residents and organizations to unite in opposing such crimes, both now and in the future.
The union demanded that the individual reponsible be given appropriate punishment as per the law. KSUD also extnded solidarity to the victim and prayed for immediate recovery from the trauma caused by the incident.
