In Bengaluru, a distressing incident has come to light where a 21-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped by the owner of her PG accommodation after she admitted to stealing three gold rings. The incident occurred on Wednesday, prompting police to swiftly arrest the accused.
The suspect, 35-year-old Ravi Teja Reddy, owns the PG house where the victim had recently moved. According to police reports, Reddy raped the student after she confessed to stealing jewelry from another inmate. She had also tampered with the CCTV camera by disconnecting its wiring, but questioned whether recordings would still be stored despite the sabotage—a conversation that raised Reddy’s suspicion.
Following this, Reddy summoned the victim for questioning, threatened to report her to the police, and aggressively interrogated her. After she admitted to the theft, Reddy allegedly instructed aides to recover the stolen valuables. When the girl begged for mercy and asked him not to involve the authorities, he reportedly slapped her and sexually assaulted her.
The victim, a nursing graduate from Andhra Pradesh, was new to Bengaluru and had arrived only a week earlier while searching for a job. Hesitant at first, she eventually confided in a male friend, who connected her with a lawyer. With their support, she lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Subsequent medical examinations confirmed the assault, leading to Reddy’s arrest under Sections 64(1), 74, and 75(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. In her FIR, the victim recounted that Reddy initially touched her private parts during a check-up, then forcibly performed oral sex when she resisted, and later forced her to have non-penetrative sex again. Reddy also allegedly threatened her to silence, but she finally found the courage to report the crime after her friends intervened.
