Expressing resentment towards the government of Nagaland and higher education department over the issue of students’ scholarship, Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU), Lumami organised mass candlelight protest on November 16 and has urged Nagaland governor to intervene on the matter.
According to a press statement by NUSU Lumami, president, K Chumseli Anar, the student community demanded the immediate disbursement of the remaining scholarship within one week from November 16.
Failing to comply with the demand, the union cautioned that it would lead to further action. It has urged the student community including higher secondary, colleges and post graduate students to prepare themselves for protests in their respective administration.
NUSU (L) lamented that the government has “stood so low even to the extent of extracting from students’ scholarship and giving ridiculous excuses”.
The students body asked as to why for the first time in the history of Nagaland, the government was “giving scholarship on instalment basis” and “on what logic”.
NUSU (L) president, K. Chumseli Anar and general secretary Esther Lohe stated that the state government would be solely held responsible if any unexpected situation arose owing to non-fulfilment of its demand.
