NUTA not exempt from election duty

Responding to the ultimatum issued by NUTA over show cause notices issued on teachers who did not report for election duty, CEO Nagaland Abhijit Sinha said under Section 159 Section of the R.P. Act, 1951, election staff can be assigned for election duty and that staff of university of both centre and state fell under the category. 
He said from time to time ECI exempts certain categories of people but that NUTA was not under exemption category.
Sinha said as per ECI’s notification, IFS, doctors, compounders working in veterinary hospitals medical staff including doctors and nurses, AIR, DD, FCI and Ayush doctors were exempted. Besides them, there was no other exemption.
Commissioner and returning officer, M Patton, said show cause notice was issued to certain NUTA officials for not turning up for training. 
He said some applied for exemption, but after verification ARO exempted six officials.
