NVBDCP conducts monitoring and supervision in Kiphire district

DIMAPUR

The State National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) conducted a comprehensive series of monitoring and supervision activities in Kiphire district from August 19 to 21. The inspection covered various health facilities, including Longmatra H&WC, Phuvkiu H&WC, Pungro village SC, Pungro CHC, Sitimi PHC, Seyochung village H&WC, Seyochung CHC, District Hospital Laboratory, and the District Vector Borne Department.
The review meeting was led by NVBDCP Deputy Director, Dr. Tinurenla along with UVBDS, Asst Director, Kikolul Khieya, state PH & training Consultant, Imsubenla, entomology consultant, Atuono Rupreo along with 1 Lab technician & 2 Insect Collectors. A significant part of the review involved evaluating the performance of surveillance workers and malaria technical supervisors. The overall performance of the NVBDCP program was thoroughly assessed, with an emphasis on encouraging staff to work diligently and ensure that all logistics and anti-malarial drugs are consistently available across health units.
Additionally, the team stressed the importance of monitoring fever cases among migrant populations, particularly in international border areas, to prevent the spread of malaria. A key recommendation was for the public to observe a “one dry day in a week,” during which all containers, such as flower pot bases, empty vessels, tyres, and coolers, should be emptied to prevent mosquito breeding, particularly for dengue prevention.
The entomology team carried out vector surveillance throughout the district, confirming the presence of malaria, dengue, and Japanese encephalitis vectors. A sentinel surveillance site for dengue has also been set up, where confirmatory tests for dengue are now available.
The findings were presented to the CMO of Kiphire, and discussions were held on the necessary actions to be taken through collaboration between the administration and the NVBDCP to ensure the continued success of the program.
