DIMAPUR: The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Kiphire district, observed “Anti-Malaria Month” from June 1 to June 30, with a series of awareness, prevention and community engagement activities aimed at strengthening malaria control and promoting public participation in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases.
The month-long observance focused on educating communities about malaria prevention, encouraging early diagnosis and treatment and promoting sanitation to reduce mosquito breeding sites. Various activities were undertaken during the campaign, including health talks, health camps, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) fortnight and resource reduction drives.
The programme witnessed active participation from healthcare workers, community leaders, church leaders, students, and members of the public. Their collective efforts contributed significantly to raising awareness and fostering community ownership in malaria prevention. Participants were encouraged to continue practicing preventive measures, use LLINs regularly, maintain clean surroundings, and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms of malaria develop.
Officials noted that community participation and collective action are vital to achieving a malaria-free society. The successful conclusion of the observance reinforced the importance of sustained awareness and preventive practices in reducing the burden of malaria in the district.
