Taking serious note on the mushrooming of illegal collections of cash by unions/associations/federations/police/public organizations/groups/government agencies at the check gates and on highways, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has appealed to the state government and all deputy commissioners in the districts to implement and enforced the Gauhati Court order of June 3, 2014.
In a press statement, NVCO press and medial cell stated that the court has banned illegal collection of cash or taking of cash at the check-gates and on highways.
NVCO claimed that illegal collections of cash at the check gates and highways have contributed to price-rise in the state and particularity in Dimapur, the commercial hub in the state.
NVCO also said that it had submitted several representations to the State Government on the issues by submitting detailed information.
A similar representation was also submitted to almost all the Deputy Commissioners during the conduct of “Consumer Awareness Campaign” in the district headquarters and sub-divisions in the state, NVCO said.
Meanwhile, NVCO lauded Dimapur Police for arresting several persons for “illegal collections” of taxes/cash and for extortions. However, NVCO said it will be much appreciable, if Nagaland Police too “stopped the illegal collection of cash at the check-gates”.
