
The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) in collaboration with students of Kohima Law College (KLC) performed “a street play” on National Food Security Act, 2013 as part of the week-long observance of “National Consumers Day”.
In a press release, NVCO press and media cell informed that the street play was carried out in three phases.
During the first phase, a play on food grains was presented to create awareness while on the second phase, a state level seminar was organised.
During the seminar, the speaker said that the National Food Security Act, 2013 was also called “Right to Food”. The speaker also informed that both above poverty line (APL) and below poverty line (BPL) beneficiaries have been amalgamated under the name of priority household (PHH) as per the Act and the beneficiaries would be provided five kgs of food grains per head.
The households covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) would be entitled to 35 kgs of food grains per month.
The speaker also informed that beneficiaries would continue to get double in addition to the regular allocation under NFSA free of cost due to the pandemic.
In the third phase, an interaction session was conducted where beneficiaries shared their grievances.
