
Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) along with the Kohima District Truck Owners and Drivers’ Union (KDTODU) conducted consumer awareness on illegal taxation especially at the check-gates and on highways on the 4th day week-long observance “National Consumers Day” on December 21 at Kohima.
A press release from NVCO press and media cell stated that, NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi, advocate at the programme pointed out the government standing order in banning collection of taxes by any organization or individual including government departments such as Police, Excise, Forest and Taxes Department, etc. President of KDTODU Riivese Sokha enquired about the report of the enquiry committee to check the illegal collection of cash at Check Gate and on Highway in and around Kohima constituted by the deputy commissioner, Kohima on October 23 based on KDTODU’s complaint.
In the programme, Kezhokhoto Savi urged the enquiry committee to thoroughly interrogate Nagaland Police/Excise/Forest/Society/MV/Union/Geology & Mining/Federation/Public Organization and also summon/enquire/investigate the officials of All Manipur Transport Drivers’ & Motor Workers’ Union for their initiative in illegal collection of cash on the highways of Nagaland especially in the Southern Angami area.
Savi has also urged the district administration, Dimapur to stop all sorts of illegal collection of cash/taxes especially at the check-gates and on highways.
