NVCO team meet DC Peren

Nagaland voluntary consumers’ organisation (NVCO) called on the deputy commissioner, Peren on June 26 pertaining to the impact of RTI in Nagaland.
NVCO team had been examining the use of RTI in the state and had been assessing its progress since the last ten years.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Peter Lichamo informed the NVCO during interaction that RTI “is a good law” considering it as an effective tool to fight against “corruption” which compelled public authorities to follow procedures and maintained records.
He said that he continually encouraged citizens to come forward with more RTI applications provided “citizens should not use the law of RTI with the mind of harassing the public authorities”.
The deputy commissioner requested the NVCO team led by Kezhokhoto Savi to create more awareness on RTI.
He further added, “filing RTI application for the sake of filing will not serve any purpose” unless it had a specific purpose of using information as a tool “to fight against injustices meted out” for valid reasons
