DIMAPUR, AUG 3 (NPN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) convened an executive coordination meeting on Monday at its office on Secretariat Road, Kohima, in preparation for the upcoming 6th World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan and the National Games 2027 in Shillong, Meghalaya. The meeting was attended by executive office bearers along with representatives from affiliated and provisional affiliated units.
A press release from the NWA media cell informed that a 10-member contingent will represent India in the Belt Wrestling discipline at the World Nomad Games scheduled from August 29 to September 7, 2026, in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The team includes wrestlers Huluyi D. Vadedo and Kivenu Puro, along with female wrestlers Vikehenuo Zumu and Haizuyile, supported by six officials. Notably, Naga Wrestling has been officially included in the Demonstration Sports Program of the VI World Nomad Games.
Looking ahead, the National Games 2027, tentatively scheduled for March 2027, will be hosted by the Meghalaya Olympic Association (MOA) and the Government of Meghalaya in Shillong. The Government of Nagaland, Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) and NWA will jointly co-host the wrestling events in Nagaland. In preparation, an intensive training camp will commence from August 15, where selected wrestlers in Free Style, Greco-Roman Style and Women’s Wrestling will undergo rigorous training until the conclusion of the Games.
