An eight-member contingent from the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has arrived in Imphal to take part in the 1st Northeast Indigenous Games, scheduled from February 23 to 25. The event is being organized under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) and the Manipur Students Federation (MSF).
The NWA team will showcase and compete in Naga Wrestling, a traditional sport that has gained recognition beyond Nagaland. A large number of wrestlers from Manipur and other states are expected to join the competition, highlighting the growing popularity of the indigenous sport.
The participation is aimed at strengthening ties between Nagaland and Manipur while promoting Naga Wrestling at a wider level. Notably, Naga Wrestling was recently recognized as a national medal event, debuting in Goa from January 12 to 14, 2026, and is set to be introduced at international championships in the near future.
The NWA team is led by president Vivolie Kezo as team director, with the property secretary serving as team manager and Seyielhoukho Sechü as referee. The wrestler lineup includes: Süthito Rhakho (96 Kg); Khrükuzo Nyekha (90 Kg); Kedosie Nagi (85 Kg); Seyiezhatuo Sano (70 Kg); Pitsali Sangtam (driver).
The NWA office has appealed to wrestling enthusiasts to extend their support and prayers for a successful outing at the Games.
