DIMAPUR: The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS) and the Government of Nagaland, has announced an Open State-Level Trial Selection for freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling.
The selection trials will be held on August 18 in Kohima and will begin at 9 am. Participants have been asked to report at the venue one hour before the scheduled time. The trials will be conducted in the following categories: Freestyle (Senior Men): 57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg, Greco-Roman (Senior Men): 60 kg, 67 kg, 77 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg and 130 kg and Women’s Wrestling (Senior): 50 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, 68 kg and 76 kg. According to the organisers, the trials are open to all eligible bona fide residents of Nagaland who meet the prescribed age and weight requirements and are physically fit to participate.
Selected wrestlers will attend a High-Performance Residential Training Camp in Kohima from August 20 to September 30. Following the camp, a State-Level Championship-cum-selection trial will be conducted.
Wrestlers selected from the state championship will undergo an Advanced National-Level Training Camp at national training centres outside the state from October 2026 to February 2027. A final selection trial will then be held to choose one wrestler in each category to represent Nagaland at the National Games 2027, scheduled to be hosted by Meghalaya in March 2027, with the wrestling events being co-hosted by Nagaland.
The final selected wrestlers will also participate in a Competition Preparation Camp in Kohima until the conclusion of the National Games.
