NYM demands Gov’s resignation over refusal to meet

KOHIMA, OCT 13 (NPN): The Naga Youth Movement (NYM) has expressed disappointment with Nagaland Governor N.K. Yadav for refusing to meet to its delegation to discuss the response to a memorandum submitted to the Centre through him.
NYM said the Governor had not provided any valid reason for refusing to meet its delegation. It stated that if the Governor was unwilling to hear or address the grievances of the Naga people, he should resign.
Following the expiry of its three-month deadline on October 8, NYM said it had sought an appointment with the Governor to seek a response to the memorandum.
It may be recalled that NYM submitted its charter of demands to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister through the Governor on July 8, setting a three-month deadline for resolving the Naga political issue. The group had sought implementation of the two Naga political agreements– Framework Agreement and Agreed Position.
The group said that despite pursuing the matter through democratic means, its voice had not been heard. It said the matter was being brought to the attention of the Naga public and that it would decide on its next course of action.
Addressing the media, NYM member Kuhoto reiterated that the governor was expected to listen to people’s concerns, particularly those of the youth, and asserted that the Naga political issue was of paramount importance. He said the movement viewed the failure to meet them as an unwillingness to engage with the youth and maintained that the Governor should resign if he was unwilling to hear their grievances and answer their questions.
Kuhoto said it was time to seek answers and appealed to the public to respond when the movement issued its clarion call. He warned that if the representation did not receive a timely response, the youth would come together to seek answers through other democratic means.
Later, the Governor’s joint secretary and officer on special duty met NYM leaders and received another memorandum submitted by the group.
