The Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS), Nagaland Chapter, honoured chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, alumnus of Sainik School Purulia, with a prestigious Golden Citation in recognition of his exemplary public service and the recent conferment of the Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa).
The citation was presented by OBASS Nagaland Chapter president H.K. Khulu (IAS Retd., addl. chief secretary), in the presence of fellow alumni, acknowledging Dr. Rio’s enduring contributions to public life and leadership spanning over five decades.
OBASS said that Dr. Rio, who bears admission No. 351 from Sainik School Purulia, was hailed for his long and impactful political journey, beginning with his election in 1989. He has since served five terms as chief minister of Nagaland and one term as Lok Sabha Member. The association lauded Dr. Rio’s role as a founding member of OBASS Nagaland Chapter and his continued efforts to foster camaraderie and leadership among alumni.
Dr. Rio urged the Old Boys to actively promote farming, drawing inspiration from Israel’s advanced agricultural models. He specifically emphasized the potential of coffee farming and dairying in Nagaland as sustainable avenues for economic development and youth empowerment.
OBASS described Dr. Rio as one of the tallest leaders of Nagaland and a true son of the soil, honouring his contributions to both the political and social fabric of the state.
