Obsession Turns Fatal: Man Kills Sister-in-Law, Shoots Himself in UP

Kushinagar (UP), May 14 (IANS): A 25-year-old man identified as Jitendra Prajapati shot dead his 18-year-old sister-in-law Naina before turning the weapon on himself in Basdila Buzurg village under the Tamkuhi Raj police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on Wednesday morning, leaving the region in shock. Police suspect the incident is linked to an alleged obsessive attachment and romantic fixation, with family members telling investigators that Jitendra had become deeply obsessed with Naina and had allegedly been pressuring the family over his desire to marry her, despite already being married to her elder sister Baby for nearly a year. Jitendra, a resident of the Uchkagaon police station area in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, had arrived at his in-laws’ residence on Tuesday evening and stayed overnight, and on Wednesday morning around 9 a.m., Naina went to his room to serve breakfast, after which Jitendra locked the room from inside. A heated argument broke out shortly afterwards, and family members who rushed to the door upon hearing loud voices and commotion heard three successive gunshots ring out in quick succession, triggering widespread panic across the village.

When police broke open the locked door, they found both Jitendra and Naina lying in a pool of blood with severe gunshot injuries, with Naina having sustained bullet wounds to her forehead and chest and Jitendra found with a gunshot wound to his temple. A .312 bore country-made pistol was recovered from the spot. Both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and a forensic team was called to collect evidence and assist in the investigation. The mobile phones of both the deceased have been seized and are being examined as part of the probe, with police investigating the case from every possible angle to establish the complete sequence of events. Naina was described by family members and villagers as a bright student pursuing her high school education who also tutored children at a private school, and her death has left the family devastated and created an atmosphere of deep shock and grief throughout the village.
