Odd-Even system in Kohima till July 15

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima and chairman of Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, has ordered implementation of ‘Odd-Even’ system for movement of private vehicles under the jurisdiction of Kohima Municipality except on Sundays with immediate effect and remain in force till July 15, 2020.

In an order, DC informed that only vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) would be allowed to ply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
While vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 0) would be allowed to ply on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The prohibition and restriction of movement of vehicles will, however, not apply to the exempted categories including Press and two-wheelers (without pillion rider); vehicles with special permit for various exigencies; Trucks carrying emergency Medical equipments, essential commodities, LPG cylinders and Oil tankers; Inter-State trucks carrying essential commodities bound for the state of Manipur; all vehicles restricted to ply by virtue of Government notifications shall remain enforced (eg. Inter-district zonal taxi, city bus, etc) and Local Taxis would be allowed to ply within Kohima Municipality as per the colour-coding.
DC warned that violation of the restriction order would be liable to be penalised under Section 177 & 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
