Ovungtsu Ekhung Headquarter Wokha (OEHW) has strongly condemned the April 10 incident at Merapani village under Wokha district wherein Chenio Ovung of Lotsu village, had his hand dismembered. Employed in a saw mill at Merapani, Chenio was first attacked with a dao on the forehead rendering him unconscious after which the accused Kania Kachari and Godi Kachari chopped off his left hand at the wrist, OEHW said.
The condemnation note issued by OEHW chairman, Shanchow Ovung and general secretary, Nzamomo Ovung stated that the incident occured when the victim was trying to pacify a quarrel between the perpetrators’ family members. It stated that this ill intention and cowardly act of the brothers is nothing short of an attempt to murder which should be condemned by one and all, irrespective of whichever community one belonged to.
OEHW while condemning the incident has thanked Merapani Village Council and Nagaland Police Bhandari for extending all possible help and for the timely shifting of the severely injured victim to Dimapur Civil Hospital.
It further appealed to the law enforcing agencies to nab the culprits at the earliest and award befitting punishment as per the law of the land.
