The official declaration ceremony of Yimkhiung Naga tribe, erstwhile Yimchunger, was held at Shamator town public ground, Yimkhiung headquarters on September 8, 2021.
It may be mentioned that after the state cabinet on July 31, 2021 approved the nomenclature/spelling of Yimchunger to Yimkhiung, the government through a notification rectified the nomenclature “Yimchunger” Naga to “Yimkhiung” Naga. The declaration ceremony was graced by Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO) president R Tsapikiu Sangtam; convenor of 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland KT Vilie; NEC, Energy Pvt. Ltd director Sapu Bhattacharyya as special invitees.
The presidents of Angami Public Organisation, Chang Khulei Setshang, Sumi Hoho, Chakhesang Public Organization and representatives from Lotha Hoho, Rengma Hoho, United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji, ENPO, leaders from Assam and others attended the ceremony.
Thousands of citizens attended the ceremony that was marked by colourful traditional dances.
