KOHIMA, MAY 27 (NPN): The official theme song of the 25th edition of the Dr. T. Ao Trophy was launched by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in the preparations for one of Nagaland’s most prestigious football tournaments.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio assured administrative approval for the timely completion of infrastructure development, including galleries and other essential facilities, to ensure preparedness ahead of the tournament.
Delivering a brief address on the history and legacy of the Dr. T. Ao Tournament, Nagaland Football Association (NFA) president Neibou Sekhose highlighted the tournament’s contribution towards nurturing football talent across the state over the years.
He stated that the legacy and contribution of Dr. T. Ao to sports continued to inspire generations and asserted that the tournament deserved recognition at the national level.
Sekhose also called upon all stakeholders to work collectively in preserving and celebrating the rich legacy associated with the iconic tournament.
During the programme, the organising committee shared plans to invite officials associated with Mohun Bagan in an effort to further elevate the stature of the tournament. It was also noted that the NFA, along with other sports bodies from the state, had made significant strides at the national level, reflecting Nagaland’s growing presence in Indian football.
On behalf of the organising committee, an appeal was made to all stakeholders, departments and the public to extend full support in hosting the tournament on a larger scale. Special emphasis was laid on organising grand opening and closing ceremonies befitting the significance of the 25th edition.
The programme began with an introduction by convenor and advisor, Temjenmenba Pongen, who underscored the importance of unity, cooperation and dedication in organising the silver jubilee edition of the tournament in a grand and memorable manner.
The programme also highlighted that the Dr. T. Ao Trophy represented not only a football competition but also a celebration of unity, sportsmanship and the enduring legacy of a pioneer whose contributions continue to inspire the sporting fraternity.
The official theme song, written and composed by Sunep Lemtur, was performed by Sunep Lemtur, Imna Yaden, Lenen Jamir, Mensemnaro, Sangti Ozukum, Yimkum and Arenchenla, adding vibrancy and cultural pride to the occasion.
