Okotso sets up ‘village garden’

A “village garden” was set up at Okotso village under Wokha district with an aim to plant fruit tree species in a dedicated area within the village premises on September 29.

In a press release, Nagaland forest department, IUCN SSC hornbill specialist group member, Lansothung Lotha informed that the effort initiated by Okotso Village Council (OVC) was carried out for villagers and visitors to relish on fruits grown in the village and an effort to make the village self-sufficient in the future. 
Litchi and mango saplings were planted in the garden and more species would be planted in the coming years, the release informed. 
It may be mentioned that in order to create “memory plantations”, the saplings were planted by elderly citizens of the village.
