Old Jalukie clarifies on land issue

Old Jalukie Village Council and Jalukie Pumling Nko have objected in totality to any unauthorized developments in the area either in the form of any deed of agreement, sale or transfer of land executed in the said area, any developmental activities undertaken in the said area, or any agency or individuals contemplating on other mischief and affirmed that the land in question would never be given away to anyone.
Old Jalukie Village Council and Jalukie Pumling Nko have issued the statement in responds to the press statement by Jalukie-Sangtam Village Council and Jalukieram Village Council with regard to ownership of land in Jalukie.
President of Jalukie Pumling Nko, Kieleu, and the chairman of Old Jalukie village council, Hainkieng Hiekha claimed that Jalukie-Sangtam and Jalukieram villages were established with the proper consent of Old Jalukie village council after swearing allegiance to the customary practices of Jalukie people to co-habitat, cultivate and proper in peace and unity. It said the issue of land and its resources is solely vested with the land owner (Old Jalukie village) through its customary practices since time immemorial adding no other authority or group or individual has any right to question or interfere or indulge in the matter.
As regards the area of land in question between the said villages where some misunderstandings had cropped up in recent times, it reminded the village councils to refer to the Old Jalukie village council notification dated 6th March 2014, declaring the area as community reserved area as per customary practices of the land owners subjected to discretionary authority of the landowners.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, Old Jalukie village council and Jalukie Pumling Nko have objected in totality any unauthorized developments in the area.
