Oldest war veteran Savil Angami passes away

One of the oldest surviving second world war veteran rifleman, Savil Angami (Suvil Thapo), who hailed from Viswema village, and settled at Pherima village, died on May 31 at the ripe age of 104 years.
A press release from Victor Thapo, the deceased’s son said that Savil Angami joined the regiment or crops on April 2, 1942 under regd. no 32295 R/M.
His wife died in the year 2012 and he is survived by three sons, one daughter, twenty two grand children and twenty five great grand children. According to the release, Savil’s courageous service was reported in the May 17, 2009 issue of Sunday Post. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m at Pherima Village on Thursday.
