Peren Police on Thursday arrested one person from Zunheboto district on charges of rape. In a statement, SP Peren, Manish Bhartiya said that a written complaint was received at Women Police Station, Jalukie on May 1 about rape of a lady by a close relative.
On receiving the complaint, an FIR was lodged, and a case was registered at the Women Police Station against the accused. The police swung into action immediately, and went to the accused’ residence, but could not trace the accused.
After consistent effort with the help of local intelligence and technical surveillance, the accused was finally arrested from Zunheboto district the following day, SP said.
SP said further investigation was underway to ascertain facts and gather evidences, while appealing for privacy of the victim and family members.
