Survey report prepared by Commissioned to the World of Work Network (CWWN) has revealed that only 4% state government employees at the Civil Secretariat say they were satisfied in their job, 48% disturbed by the way Christians conduct themselves at the workplace while 41% were found to be often discouraged by the way things function at the workplace.
The survey also revealed that 35% employees disagreed to be a disciple of Jesus Christ at the workplace and 76% agreed that their faith drove them to be faithful and sincere in their work.
Presenting the survey report during the annual Connect Event 2016 organized by CWWN at De Oriental Grand here Wednesday, CWWN member, Lily T Metha, said there was a great divide today between the secular and the religious people in terms of the morality, which determined the way things function and work in many workplaces.
She said the survey also reported that though only 5% nodded there was no connection between faith and dedication to work, 74% feel responsible that everyone ought to make a difference at their workplace.
Administrative Training Institute (ATI) deputy director, Dr Hovithal Sothu, said “service to men is service to God” and therefore workplace should be a church and should be the temple and mosques.
With about 1, 40, 000 employees working in the government, he said people were trained yet they become like a tiny drops of water in a desert when they go and face the department.
Agreeing to the survey report that 74% feel responsible for change, Sothu, however, said when the spirit was weak, people get drowned into the system — the wrong system, the adjustment system, the compromising system.
H&FW joint secretary and panellist, Rajesh Soundararajan , said even as 96 % of employees believed they were not placed in the right workplace, as long as a person took it as a calling, then justice was done to the call.
On being asked if spirituality should be strictly private, Soundararajan said there was a thin line between spiritual activities and spirituality. He said as long it did not disturb the harmony or hurt the others then there would not be any issue.
The event was organized with the aim to foster conversations, forging relationships and fuelling people towards purposeful work and living.
