NEW DELHI, JUL 24 (AGENCIES): The BJP on Friday accused the Opposition, particularly Congress, of exploiting the students’ agitation over paper leaks for “political interests” while avoiding a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur said the Modi government has prioritised students’ welfare and is ready to discuss paper leaks and education reforms, but the Opposition is interested only in politics.
BJP MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla alleged that a movement started by students and activist Sonam Wangchuk had been taken over by Opposition parties for political gains. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outreach to students and measures announced to address their concerns.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed Congress was trying to derive political mileage from the agitation after failing to launch any movement of its own. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari alleged the Opposition was attempting to stall Parliament.
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh also accused Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, of “politically hijacking” students’ issues for electoral gains.
