Oral health outreach for special needs

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Paediatric Dentists, along with a dental team, conducted an oral health outreach programme at Angel Home and Prodigals’ Home on June 25 to promote oral health awareness and preventive dental care among children with special needs. Altogether 45 children participated in the initiative-Angel Home supports children with intellectual disabilities, while Prodigals’ Home cares for children with visual impairment and rescued children. The programme focused on educating children and caregivers on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. Comprehensive oral health examinations were carried out for every child, with preventive dental treatments including Acidulated Phosphate Fluoride (APF) gel and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) applications. To reinforce healthy habits, visual brushing instruction posters were also distributed to the homes for continued learning and daily reference.
