Morakjo Village Council (MVC) has strongly condemned the midnight raid, at the residence of one of its prominent member and a senior state government officer, Robert Odyuo, in the wee hour of August 24, carried out by the Indian Army, while he was out of station.
A condemnation note by MVC chairman, Ponathung Odyuo stated that MVC has taken strong exception to “threatening and intimidating conduct of the army men”, which included two female officers.
MVC stated that the mental and emotional stress caused to his minor daughter and niece who were preparing for their quarterly exams and also fear psychosis inflicted on other family members was morally reprehensible. MVC stated that it held the army responsible for this “traumatic and painful” experience faced by his family members.
While questioning the motive behind this midnight raid, the MVC further added that, treating respected govt officers like common criminals was totally unacceptable and uncalled for and appealed to the top army authorities to look into the matter and take stringent action against the officers responsible.
Further the MVC wondered if the army have ever heard of the fundamental right to privacy and whether there was any constitutional safeguard for innocent public against such irresponsible conduct of the army in the name of AFPSA.
DME: Dimapur Morakjo Ekhung (DME) in a condemnation note by chairman, O. Odyuo and secretary, Luther Odyuo questions the army authority as to the reason behind this terrorizing conduct of the army men under the guise of AFSPA. DME stated that treating respected members of the society like anti-national elements just to earn brownie points in their service records was strongly objected.
DME further requested the top army brass to inquire into the incident and take stringent action the army officers and jawans which included two female officers.
