Organisations condemn drone attack on Khammoi village in Myanmar

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN)

Several organisations including Konyak civil society organisations (CSOs), Global Naga Forum (GNF), Eastern Konyak Union (Myanmar), Khammoi village council and Khammoi students’ union have condemned the drone attack on Khammoi (Khenmoi-Loiyi) village, Myanmar.
Konyak CSOs: Konyak civil society organisations vehemently condemned what they described as “inhuman and barbaric drone attack” carried out by the Indian security forces at a public place in Khammoi village, Eastern Konyak (Burma), on October 20, 2025, at around 6:30pm.
Konyak CSOs said that the attack resulted in the tragic loss of the lives of an innocent young girl student, a six-year-old, and a young man who was serving as the joint secretary of the Khammoi village students’ union, and severe injuries to five others.
The CSOs termed the attack as “a deliberate act of genocide” against the Konyak people living in Burma.
They said that such a barbaric and unprovoked act of violence against innocent civilians, including children, was an “outright violation” of international human rights laws and constituted a heinous crime against humanity.
The CSOs maintained that “deliberate targeting” of defenceless civilians under any pretext was indefensible, inhumane, and demonstrated an utter disregard for human life and dignity.
In this regard, Konyak CSOs have called upon all right-thinking citizens and organizations to condemn such barbaric acts perpetrated by any security force. Further, they appealed to the national and international human rights organizations to take “serious cognizance of this brutal assault” and ensure that such atrocities were never repeated in the future.
Meanwhile, Konyak CSOs have acknowledged the medical department, headed by CMO, MS, and DPO (UIP & RCH), and the Red Cross Society, Mon district, for their prompt and compassionate humanitarian response to the Union’s call in providing essential medicines, medical kits, and ambulance services for the transportation of the victim from Longwa village to district hospital, Mon.
CSOs informed that medical supplies have been dispatched to Khammoi village to facilitate the treatment and recovery of the injured individuals.
Konyak CSOs have conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Meanwhile, Konyak Union (KU) has affirmed to defend the rights, dignity, and safety of its people against any form of aggression or oppression.
GNF: Global Naga Forum (GNF) strongly condemned what it called “the cowardly and inhumane drone strike” by the Indian armed forces targeting the Naga village of Khammoi (Khenmoi-Loiyi) under East Konyak Region carried out on the evening of October 20, 2025 at around 6:30 p.m. Indian time (7:30 p.m. Myanmar time).
GNF through its media cell two innocent Naga civilians were killed in “brutal and unprovoked attack”. GNF identified the deceased as late Eli Phiphot Wangsa, student of Khammoi Mission School, and late Khampei Wangsa (27), joint secretary of KSU. The forum also said that several others, including children, elderly women, and men, were also injured in the strike.
GNF dubbed the attack as a gross violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.
According to the forum, the October 20 incident was the second Indian drone strike on a Naga village this year. It said that the attack clearly showed a deliberate pattern of targeting Naga civilians beyond the imposed boundary.
GNF stressed that the attack took place not deep inside Burmese territory like Yangon or Mandalay, but on Naga ancestral land, where the Naga people have lived long before artificial international boundaries were drawn.
GNF also expressed concern over the “deafening silence” of the Government of Myanmar, which, it said should have strongly objected to such a violation of its sovereignty if the Indian Army
had launched an attack anywhere else in Myanmar. “Its silence reveals a harsh truth
that because we are Nagas and not ethnic Burmese, our lives are treated with indifference,” GNF stated.
In the light of the incident, the GNF called upon the United Nations and relevant international human rights mechanisms to take immediate cognizance of this drone strike and the broader pattern of military aggression, and hold the Government of India accountable for violating international law.
GNF also urged the Government of Myanmar to break its silence and take a principled stand on this violation of its territorial integrity and the killing of civilians on its soil, adding that “Naga lives matter.”
Further, the forum called upon the human rights defenders, democratic governments, and civil society to support an independent international investigation into the October 20 drone strike and other cross-border violations.
GNF has called upon the Government of India to end military aggression against civilians and respect the inherent rights, dignity, and existence of the Naga people.
Meanwhile, GNF has extended its condolences to the bereaved families affirmed its solidarity with the bereaved them, the injured, and the entire Khammoi village community.

EKU: Eastern Konyak Union along with KVC and KSU have strongly condemned “inhuman activities” on Khammoi village by the Indian forces.
EKU through its media cell informed that houses were burnt to ashes by drone attack.
The union has appealed to the human rights groups to intervene and condemn such acts in the civilian areas. They also urged government of India to stop attack on civilians.
EKU said drones were lunched from Khonsa side in Arunachal Pradesh.
The union along with all Eastern Konyak CSOs urged the Indian security forces to distinguish between civilian area and insurgent camps, and to stop targeting innocent villagers.
Eastern Konyak public appealed to all right thinking citizens, civil society groups and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights and Nagas Without Borders to condemn the drone attack.
EKU has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed that Almighty God comfort them speedy recovery to injured.’NPF concerned over incident

NPF concerned over incident

Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed deep concern over the reported incident that occurred on October 20, along the India-Myanmar border near Longwa village.
NPF through its press bureau stated that Indian security forces were “said to have carried out an operation targeting the residence of a senior NSCN-K (YA) leader in Khammoi village, Myanmar.”
Citing reports, NPF said several individuals lost their lives, including members of the leader’s family, while others sustained serious injuries. NPF expressed grief over the loss of lives and the distress caused to the affected families and communities. The party stated that such incidents called for careful examination to prevent further tension or misunderstanding given the sensitivity of the border region and its close-knit human ties across both sides.
