Organisations denounce sexual violence; demand swift justice under POCSO

DIMAPUR: Civil society organisations, women’s bodies, student unions and village councils across Nagaland have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur, reportedly by O. Watimeren Jamir and Tsuktimongba Ao, and demanded uncompromising justice under the law.
CNWA: Central Nagaland Women Association (CNWA) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault committed against a minor by O. Watiremen Jamir and others.
In a statement, CNWA president, Dr. Anungla Aier and general secretary, Lily Sumi expressed outrage over the incident and called for immediate and stringent action by law enforcement authorities. The association emphasized the urgent need to ensure justice, protection and support for survivors of sexual violence.
CNWA further urged community leaders and the public to stand united against sexual violence and abuse, stressing that such acts must not be tolerated in society.
DNWO: Diphupar Naga Women Organisation (DNWO) has expressed profound anguish and strongest condemnation over the reported sexual assault and abuse of a minor child.
In a condemnation note, DNWO chairperson, Khriezovonuo Zumv and general secretary, Abeni Ngullie described the crime as a cruel betrayal of innocence and a violation of human dignity, and stated that such acts are “abhorrent, inhumane and utterly unacceptable under any circumstance.”
It reiterated that perpetrators of child sexual abuse must be held fully accountable under the law, stressing that crimes against children strike at the very foundation of a just society.
While the matter remains under investigation, DNWO asserted that justice must proceed “without fear, favour, delay or interference.”
Commending the prompt action of Dimapur Police, the organisation urged authorities to ensure a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation, noting that justice delayed is justice denied, especially in cases involving vulnerable children.
Extending compassion and prayers to the survivor and family, DNWO assured its unwavering support, declaring: “You are precious, valued and deeply loved. What happened does not define your future. The darkness of this moment will never diminish your worth or dreams.”
The organisation emphasized that child protection is a collective responsibility, calling upon parents, families, institutions, churches, civil society and citizens to work together to create a safe environment where children are respected and empowered to speak without fear.
Reaffirming its commitment to advocate for the rights and dignity of women and children, DNWO vowed to continue supporting victims of injustice and initiatives that strengthen child protection.
“Let justice prevail. Let truth triumph. Let healing reach the wounded. And let every child live in safety, dignity and hope,” the statement concluded.
EGON: Ethnic Group of Nagaland (EGON) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Dimapur.
In its statement, EGON president, D. Ledia Awomi, expressed outrage over the incident and called for justice and a thorough investigation against the accused individuals. The organisation stressed the importance of protecting the dignity and rights of victims, while urging authorities to ensure accountability and swift legal action.
EGON further appealed to society to stand united against violence, exploitation and abuse of women and children, reaffirming its commitment to advocate for their safety and welfare.
STLP: Sümi Totimi Loka Padum Pukhuri (STLP) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Dimapur, declaring zero tolerance for crimes against children.
In its statement, the organisation commended the courage of the victim and family while acknowledging the swift response of law enforcement. It urged a transparent and impartial investigation against the accused, identified as Watimeren Jamir alias O. Wati Jamir and Tsuktimongba Ao, under relevant legal provisions.
The organisation stressed the importance of ensuring justice, privacy, dignity and safety for the minor, while advocating for medical care, psychological counselling and educational support.
Reaffirming its stand against violence, exploitation and abuse of women and children, the statement appealed to citizens to uphold children’s rights and protect their future.
NTUCT: Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) has strongly condemned the sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl in Dimapur, allegedly committed by O. Watimeren Jamir and Tsuktimongba Ao.
Describing the act as deeply disturbing and intolerable, NTUCT president, I. Nungsang Jamir and general secretary, Amen Kuotsu stated that rape and sexual abuse have no place in a civilized society. It urged authorities to act swiftly, conduct impartial investigations and enforce severe punishment on the perpetrators to ensure the safety and dignity of every child.
The union emphasized that justice delayed in crimes against children is justice denied, and called for strong deterrent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Extending unconditional support to the victim and her family, NTUCT offered prayers and compassion, assuring solidarity from the community.
ENSSU: Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students’ Union (ENSSU) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl belonging to the Chang community, reportedly involving O. Watimeren Jamir and accomplices.
In a statement, ENSSU expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that the allegations have generated widespread outrage among the public. The union observed that the accused is known to hold a position of influence in a reputed organisation, making the matter particularly disturbing.
ENSSU stated that such incidents inflict severe trauma upon victims and families while undermining public trust in institutions and community leadership.
It lamented that individuals in positions of responsibility being linked to such allegations stand in stark contrast to values of integrity, accountability and moral responsibility.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice and child protection, ENSSU asserted that no individual, regardless of social standing, influence, professional status or political affiliation, should be placed above the law. It called upon competent authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, transparent and time bound investigation and ensure appropriate legal action under relevant laws.
The union further expressed solidarity with the victim and family, stressing that the safety, dignity and well being of every child must remain a collective responsibility of society. It maintained that any act threatening children’s rights must be met with firm legal action and unequivocal societal condemnation.
ZYOD: Zeliang Youth Organization Dimapur (ZYOD) termed the crime a grave violation of human dignity and child protection rights, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable in any civilized society.” Expressing solidarity with the victim and family, ZYOD reiterated its zero tolerance stance against child sexual abuse and urged law enforcement and judicial authorities to conduct a swift, impartial and transparent investigation. It pledged full cooperation to the family until justice is delivered.
PWHWN: Pochury Women Hoho Western Nagaland (PWHWN) expressed shock over the prolonged assault and exploitation of the minor, condemning the act in the strongest terms. The organisation extended solidarity with the victim and urged investigating agencies to ensure expeditious justice.
IVR: Village Council of Industrial Village Razhüphe, Dimapur has vehemently condemned the heinous and inhumane incident of sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl, allegedly committed by O. Watimeren Jamir and Tsuktimongba Ao, who it said “were supposed to be her protectors but turned out to be predators.”
Terming the act as barbaric, shameful and intolerable in a civilized society, the council expressed strong disapproval and extended its solidarity with the victim and family.
The council also appreciated the Dimapur Police for their prompt action in registering the case and arresting the accused, and expressed hope for an early charge sheet to deliver justice and ensure punishment under relevant sections of the law.
Extending heartfelt sympathy to the victim and her family, the council urged the state government to provide all possible assistance for her recovery.
