DIMAPUR: In the wake of the recent landslides and flash floods across Nagaland, several organisations have expressed grief, solidarity and concern while urging authorities to strengthen disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
ENPO: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has expressed profound sorrow over the loss of nine lives in the recent rain-triggered landslides in Mon district, while noting that some persons remain missing.
In a press note, ENPO conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and appreciated chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and senior state government officials for visiting Mon district to assess the situation.
The organisation also acknowledged the government’s announcement of ex gratia assistance and other immediate relief measures for affected families across Nagaland.
ENPO further placed on record its appreciation for the efforts of the district administration, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, State Disaster Response Force Mon, DEF Mon, Assam Rifles, Konyak Union, local volunteers and others involved in the rescue and relief operations.
While welcoming the government’s response, ENPO appealed to the state government and all concerned departments to ensure rehabilitation of the affected families and expedite restoration of roads, electricity and other essential services, noting that Mon town remained cut off due to extensive damage caused by the calamity.
ENPO also urged the government to provide adequate compensation for the loss of houses, properties, crops and livestock to enable affected families across the state to rebuild their lives.
AKM: Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has expressed profound grief and unwavering solidarity with the people of Mon district devastated by the recent landslide, and with residents of Tuli who are facing severe hardships due to floods.
In a press release, AKM president, Lanulemba Longchar and general secretary, Aomayang Longkumer said it was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in Mon, describing the untimely demise of citizens as a painful reminder of the destructive impact of natural calamities. It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Standing in solidarity with the people of Tuli, AKM noted that widespread flooding has inundated homes, damaged infrastructure, destroyed crops and livelihoods, and displaced families, causing immense hardship. It called for compassion, generosity and unity in times of crisis.
The organisation also placed on record its appreciation for the tireless efforts of district administrations, NSDMA, rescue and emergency personnel, security forces, medical teams, volunteers, civil society organisations and churches who have worked relentlessly in rescue, relief and rehabilitation despite challenging conditions. It urged authorities to ensure relief measures are carried out promptly, transparently and efficiently so that every affected family receives timely assistance.
In its message, AKM reaffirmed its commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with affected families, praying for the eternal peace of those who lost their lives, speedy recovery of the injured, safety of those at risk and swift restoration of normalcy.
NPP: National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland unit has expressed sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the recent landslides and flash floods triggered by torrential rains across the state, particularly in Mon town, Tizit, Mokokchung and Wokha districts.
In a statement, NPP said its thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the injured and the hundreds displaced or affected by waterlogging and structural collapses. It commended the rapid and courageous efforts of emergency response teams, local administrations and community volunteers working relentlessly under highly challenging conditions.
While acknowledging the importance of emergency relief and financial ex gratia, NPP noted that recurring disruptions, road blockages and infrastructural vulnerabilities have unfortunately become an expected yearly ritual during the monsoons. It stressed that the recurring nature of such disasters underscores the limitations of relying solely on post event management.
The party urged the NPF led government to reorient priorities toward robust, pre emptive planning. It called for long term upgradation of foundational infrastructure, focusing on advanced drainage systems, comprehensive landslide mitigation along critical highways and climate resilient civil engineering.
Ex-PAN: Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has expressed profound sadness over the tragic landslide in Mon town on July 19, which claimed nine lives and caused extensive damage and injuries.
While acknowledging that Nagaland is prone to natural disasters, Ex-PAN said it was extremely devastating when such tragedies occur in urban areas, leading to the loss of lives and properties.
The Association deeply mourned the deceased and offered prayers for those injured in the tragedy. It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying that God grant them solace and comfort during this difficult time.
