Organizations, individuals mourn demise of late Isak Chishi Swu

RS Pandey: Former chief secretary of Nagaland and Interlocutor for Naga talks, RS Pandy has expressed deep sorrow on the passing away of NSCN (I-M) chairman, Isak Chishi Swu. Pandey said he fondly remembered his association with Swu during the peace talks. He said Swu, a devoutly religious person, would always begin and conclude the peace talks sitting with prayers. He said Swu’s sincerity of purpose and strength of character would help defuse tension and calm down nerves during the talks. Pandey however said that significant progress which had been achieved towards the final outcome of the peace process “owes great deal to his wisdom, insight and untiring efforts.” Pandey said Swu, who had contributed immensely, hoped to see a new era of permanent peace and progress for the Nagas during his lifetime. Pandey further conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members and Swu’s followers in Nagaland and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

RS MP: In a condolence message to Khulu Isak Swu, Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye expressed “deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and the followers of uncle Isak Chishi Swu”. During his recent visits to Swu’s residence in Delhi, Kenye recalled that though Swu was found to be physically weak, he was however but mentally and spiritually very strong, alert and fresh. “His faith in the Almighty was unwavering, and the prayers we have had together invoking the blessings of the Lord on the Naga people and on ourselves were, as usual, very refreshing and comforting”, he added. He said Swu’s zeal and determination to the cause of the Naga people, especially for an early and honourable settlement to the Naga political problem, was more pronounced than ever in the last few years. Kenye opined that Swu had dearly wanted to see Naga solution during his lifetime.The vacuum created by his demise would not be possible to be filled; the tragedy of his death is immense; and the loss irreplaceable, Kenye stated. Describing Swu as one of the brightest stars in the Naga National political firmament, Kenye said the beacon of light that guided Nagas for their political destiny in turbulent weather conditions, has gone out. Though he is no longer with us, Kenye said “we must come together and steer the destiny of the Naga people to the destination our late leader had in mind: An early and amicable solution to the protracted Naga problem which is honourable and acceptable to all sections of the people”. “Let us take up that as a tribute to, and in memory of, our late and beloved leader”, he added.

NBCC: Nagaland Baptist Church Council in a condolence message has stated that in the dead of late Isak Chishi Swu, Nagas have lost a patriot and a pioneer in the search for the aspiration of his people, to which end he had stood tall in demonstrating outstanding courage and commitment till the last of his breath. NBCC has conveyed its deepest condolences and prayers to the bereaved family for God’s strength and that the departed soul rest in peace.

TPO: Tenyimi Peoples’ Organisation (TPO) in a condolence message said late Isak Chishi Swu stood tallest as one of the Naga leaders who had given everything for the cause of the Nagas to live as a people, unwavering in his ideology and God fearing in his approach. TPO has prayed for the departed leader to find eternal peace and asked the Almighty to grant solace and mitigate the grief of the family members, kith and kin and all close associates. 

SOUN: Sumi Officers’ Union Nagaland (SOUN) in a condolence message said late Isak Chishi Swu endured untold hardships and sufferings in his effort to assert the political rights of the Nagas. SOUN said his contributions to this cause would forever be etched in the minds and hearts of the Naga people. Further, SOUN has conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty to grant them strength and the departed soul rest to in heavenly peace. 

ACAUT: In a condolence message ACAUT stated that Nagas have lost one of its most important leaders who sacrificed his entire life for the cause of Nagas. ACAUT said it mourns with the rest of the Naga nation at the passing of a true leader and a patriot. ACAUT stated that history would remember Chairman Isak Chishi Swu as a God fearing champion for freedom, for peace and reconciliation, of uncommon grace and compassion, for whom abandoning bitterness and embracing adversaries was not just a political strategy but a way of life. 

CPDM: Campaign for Peace & Democracy Manipur in a condolence message said late Isak Chishi Swu had stood firmly for the cause of a political ideology and have dedicated fully to unite his people to achieve higher level of independence and progress. CPDM said it feels the pain of losing him and deeply condoles his demise. “May his name live long in the history of resistance to subjugation, oppression and exploitation”, said Campaign for Peace & Democracy Manipur.

RNCA: Rongmei Naga Council, Assam (RNCA) in a condolence message said late Isak Chishi Swu would be missed for his compassion and lifelong sacrificed journey for the Nagas. RNCA has conveyed its sympathy to the bereaved family.

CNSC: Concerned Naga Senior Citizens (CNSC) in a condolence message stated that Nagas have lost a great patriotic revolutionary in the history of their freedom movement which would be difficult to fill. CNSC has prayed to the almighty God to grant solace to the bereaved family and peaceful rest to the departed soul

SCD: Sumi Council, Dimapur (SCD) in a condolence message described late Isak Chishi Swu as a patriot who gave his entire life for the Naga cause despite the fact that he could have opted for a comfortable and easy life taking up a white color job with his educational qualification during the early days. SCD sated that he was a leader in the truest sense acceptable to all section of the Naga society as he was above all isms which has fragmented “our” society over the years. SCD said his presence will be missed at a time when the protracted Naga problem was shaping to go forward in the right direction. While expressing deepest condolences to the bereaved family, SCD has prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

MKPO: Mech Kachari Public Organization of Nagaland (MKPO) in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a leader who always selflessly spent all his life for the cause of Nagas and emphasized on unity. MKPO has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

LLRPO: Lotha Lower Range Public Organization in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a leader who gave all for the cause of Naga. It said late Swu would be remembered down the generations for the instrumental role he played in signing the historic August 3, 2015, ‘Framework Agreement’ with government of India. LLRPO has extended its heartfelt condolences to the wife and family and prayed that his soul rest in eternal glory.

CSA: Chakhroma Sports Association (CSA) in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a man of truth, of honour who fought for the rights of the Naga people and added that his innumerable contributions to the Naga people would be remembered. CSA has prayed that the soul of the beloved leader rest in peace.

APO: Angami Public Organisation (APO) in a condolence message stated that late Isak Chishi Swu was a man of great character and had made innumerable contributions to the society and that Nagas have lost a true patriot and a true leader. APO prayed that Almighty God give the bereaved family the peace and comfort that they need and for the soul of the beloved leader to rest in peace.

TTC: Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) in a condolence message stated that stated that Nagas have lost a visionary leader, a true patriot and God fearing father. TTC said the entire Tikhirs mourn the loss of a great leader and has conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

GHMSS: Gorkha Hindu Milan Sewa Sangha (GHMSS) in a condolence message stated that the Gorkha community would remember late Isak Chishi Swu particularly for his extra love and affection for peace and Naga freedom. It has prayed to the Almighty to give strength to his family members and peace to the departed soul. 

M. B.  Foundation: Chief organiser of M. B.  Foundation, Dimapur, Monoj Bhattacharjee has condole the sad demise and stated that he would always be remembered by true lovers of Nagaland.  

CPO: Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as one of the tallest leaders in the freedom struggle for Naga sovereignty who had sacrificed his best for the political cause of the Nagas. CPO prayed that God the Almighty would grant solace to the family members and that the departed soul rest in eternal home. 

MHD: Mao Hoho Dimapur (MHD) in a condolence message said late Isak Chishi Swu would be remembered by one and all for his fatherly nature and faith in God. SSCFD: Sumi Senior Citizen Forum Dimapur (SSCFD) in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a God fearing man who lived for peace integrity and selfless to the nation for sovereignty. It said his death was a great loss for Nagas and particularly for Sumi community. SSCFD has prayed that God grant courage to the bereaved family and for the departed soul to rest in peace.

SPFD: Sangtam Peoples’ Forum Dimapur (SPFD) has shared its deepest condolence to the bereaved family at the loss of a great leader who spent his entire life for the cause of Naga nation. NGTC: Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC) in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a God fearing man, who has contributed and dedicated his whole life for the cause of the Naga nation. NGTC stated that he always had a soft corner for the minority tribes of the state. NGTC has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Lord almighty would give them strength to overcome the great loss

GSUNZ: Garo Students’ Union Nagaland Zone (GSUNZ) in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as a great Naga leader from the Sumi tribe who worked tirelessly and selflessly for the Naga cause. TSUD said it honours and salutes late Isak Chishi Swu’s sacrifices and hoped that the Nagas can emulate his examples and good qualities. With a heavy heart, TSUD said it prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

ZBA: Zeme Baptist Association (ZBA) mission center Jalukie town in a condolence message said it was unfortunate to have lost the great Naga hero late Isak Chishi Swu just at the door of “our” final solution. It has prayed t good God to bless his family and the Naga family.

DCCI: Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) in a condolence message stated that death of late Isak Chishi Swu has silenced a great leader and that his demise would be felt by the entire Naga people for whom he worked so hard. DCCI also stated that the memory of his patriotic leadership would, however, remain a source of inspiration and encouragement to all his comrades, national workers and the Naga populace. He said though late Swu has left the world, he was in a better land now. Sawmi said he remembers late Swu as a prayerful and a very kind-hearted person adding that that was how he would always remember late Swu in life. Further, Sawmi has conveyed deepest sympathy to his wife and the children.

Sümi orgns: Sümi Hoho and Sümi Kükami (GBs) Hoho have expressed deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences at the demise of Late Isak Chishi Swu. Sümi Hoho general secretary Vihuto Asumi on behalf of organisations recalled the sacrifices and service of late Isak Chishi Swu and said that demise was a great loss for the Sümi community in particular and the Nagas in general. He said a leader on the calibre and dedication of late Isak Chishi Swu was hardly witnessed and that he was the prolific and undisputed leader in the history of Naga Political Struggle. The Hohos further extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for divine courage to overcome the greatest loss ever.

BJYM: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morch (BJYM), Dimapur district in a condolence message has described late Isak Chishi Swu as true patriot and a selfless leader who devoted his entire life for the rights of the Naga people. It said a great visionary leader like him was scarce in our society today and prayed that his immense sacrifices for the Nagas may not go in vain.
