Orgns condemn alleged rape of minor

Various organisations have strongly condemned the alleged rape of a five-year-old girl by a 55 year-old Kikua Marian.

ENWO unit: Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) Dimapur unit has condemned the alleged rape and requested the authorities to bring swift justice for the victim and her family and award the perpetrator with befitting sentence. A condemnation note through its president, N. Langmei Phom stated that Nagaland as a Christian state should be exemplary among other states for showing love and respect for another human being. However, it stated that the present prevailing situation in the society had made people “wolf disguise in sheep clothing”. Stating that it was “one such incident which exemplifies oppression of an economically weaker section by someone in power without fear and remorse”, ENWO said that it was not the first of its kind for Eastern Nagaland family members. It stated that “many a times we have been abused sexually and mentally and discriminated because of our social and economic backwardness” ENWO said that due to poverty beyond survival in the remote Eastern Nagaland areas, poor parents sent their loved ones as young as 5-6 years to cities to work as helper and study to become somewhat economically independent. However, it stated that “our desperate hope for a better and secure future has turned into horror and nightmare for most of these kids and parents”. Questioning the people as to how far do they continue to accept such horrific incidents as normal, ENWO unit stated that such unanswered questions were not just for the Eastern Nagaland family but for the entire Naga society and specifically for the concerned authorities failing to punish such perpetrators without delay.  “Our Naga society’s concept of peaceful coexistence with forgiveness and compromise have instead made our society a paradise of wrong doings without remorse and have encouraged the scums of the society to become bolder in their actions,” it stated. Further, ENWO stated that it was high time to bring such perpetrators to justice without compromise and further delay and that such incident was not confined to Eastern Nagaland family alone but to all Naga society as they let such perpetrators roam freely without justice.

TWUD: Tenyimi Women Union Dimapur (TWUD) has strongly condemned the barbaric and inhuman act of the rape stating that as a civilised society, the heinous crime committed against their five year old daughter was nothing short of demonic. A condemnation note through its president Neivi Khusoh and general secretary Tenyele Rengma called upon the law enforcement agencies to award befitting punishment to the culprit and provide justice to the victim

NGMA: Nagaland Garo Mother’s Association (NGMA) has expressed shock over the alleged rape stating that the culprit should be awarded severest punishment for committing such inhumane and evil act towards a minor. A condemnation through its general secretary, Holika D Sangma has appealed the law enforcing agencies to act swiftly in delivering justice to the innocent victim and her family.  Further, NGMA being a mother organisation extended its sympathy towards the victim and her family.
