Oriental College Kohima (OCK) celebrated its 29th Freshers’ Day on Saturday at the college auditorium, welcoming the new batch of students through a programme comprising formal and informal sessions.
The formal session was chaired by Oriental College Kohima Students’ Union (OCKSU) general secretary Lika Sangtam. It began with the College Anthem, followed by an invocation by Kezhaneinuo Kruse of B.Com fifth semester. OCKSU assistant general secretary Kevizo Miasalhou delivered the welcome address on behalf of the seniors, while Kekrunie Nyekha of BA first semester spoke on behalf of the freshers.
Vice Principal (Administration), Oriental College Kohima, Chibeni Murry, in her exhortation, welcomed the 2026 batch of freshers and encouraged them to embark on their college journey with faith, hope and God’s guidance. Referring to Proverbs 3:5–6 and Psalm 90:17, she urged the students to seek God’s direction in every decision, work diligently and make the best use of their college years.
She reminded the students that although the support of their families, teachers and the sponsoring church was invaluable, success would ultimately depend on their own dedication and hard work. She also encouraged them to serve as ambassadors of Oriental College by spreading positivity and upholding the institution’s values. Expressing gratitude to the sponsoring church and the management board, she thanked them for their unwavering love, support and prayers.
A special prayer for the students and the college was offered by the church elders of Christian Revival Church, Kohima Village.
The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by OCKSU social and cultural secretary Ashish Tamang, followed by the singing of the closing hymn, O God Our Help in Ages Past.
A highlight of the programme was a special musical performance by Mengu Suokhrie, who presented Louis Armstrong’s classic What a Wonderful World.
Her rendition received warm appreciation from the audience and was one of the major attractions of the celebration.
The informal session was compered by Aningle of BA fifth semester and Chapdalubo Namdau of BA third semester. It featured the much-awaited Mr. and Ms. Fresher Contest, during which the newly admitted students showcased their talents, confidence and personality.
At the conclusion of the contest, Wangman K was crowned Mr. Fresher 2026, while Kekrunie Nyekha was adjudged Ms. Fresher 2026, bringing the college’s 29th Freshers’ Day celebration to a memorable close.
The programme was attended by students, faculty members, members of the college’s management board and members of the Christian Revival Church, who joined in extending their blessings and encouragement to the freshers.
