Orientation for KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship

KOHIMA

The Kohima Press Club (KPC), in collaboration with the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (NBOCWWB), conducted an orientation programme on Monday for the newly selected media fellows of the 2025 KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship. The event, held at the KPC Office in Kohima, welcomed fellows Chizokho Vero (Kohima), Shongmo B (Noklak), and Yarden Jamir (Mokokchung).
KPC President Alice Yhoshü highlighted that this marks the fourth edition of the state’s only media fellowship, which has consistently focused on amplifying stories from the construction sector—one of the most overlooked segments of society. She commended NBOCWWB for its vision and continued support in empowering journalists to spotlight the lives and struggles of construction workers across Nagaland.
NBOCWWB CEO T. Chubayanger emphasized the transformative impact of the fellowship, noting that the stories produced have not only raised awareness but also prompted tangible changes within the Board’s schemes. He credited the fellows’ reporting for helping the Board move forward with greater clarity and responsiveness, stating, “Basing on the stories you have brought out, we have made so many changes.” He also announced plans to publish a book compiling the fellowship’s stories.
Media Fellowship Convenor Vishü Rita Krocha reflected on the initiative’s inception in 2022, describing it as a journey that has revealed powerful narratives and empowered journalists to explore the vulnerabilities of construction workers. She noted that the fellowship enables reporters to go beyond routine coverage, offering both financial support and a platform for impactful storytelling.
Former fellow Reyivolü Rhakho shared her experience, underscoring the opportunity to focus on one of society’s most marginalized sectors. The 2025 fellows expressed gratitude to KPC and NBOCWWB, pledging to approach the assignment as a mission to tell stories that matter.
The programme concluded with the signing of agreements and the disbursement of pre-payment grants to the selected fellows by CEO Chubayanger.
