DIMAPUR: A one-day orientation programme for Surveyors and Voluntary Teachers under ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society): Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram was held on Wednesday at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
Delivering the keynote address, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Ruopfükoutuo Noudi, said ULLAS was a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at achieving full literacy by 2027. He noted that while Nagaland had performed well in literacy, a sizeable population remained outside formal education. Stressing the importance of the survey, he expressed hope that the State would achieve 100 percent literacy.
Noudi explained that the programme sought to move beyond teaching people to merely sign their names, and instead equip them with basic reading, writing, functional and digital literacy skills. He also highlighted the ULLAS mobile application and urged surveyors to carry out their assignments with sincerity and dedication.
Earlier, District Education Officer Kohima, Emilo Patton, in her welcome address, encouraged surveyors to take up the responsibility of identifying and registering non-literate adults, describing their role as a noble challenge that could pave the way for holistic development.
The training session covered topics on ULLAS implementation, survey procedures, the ULLAS App and the ULLAS Primer. Resource persons included Zulumenla, Meyiesul Thapru, Hinilo Cheng and Vibeizolie Yashü.
ADC & DMA, Samagra Shiksha Kohima, Ruokuoneinuo, chaired the programme, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Sr. SDEO Kohima, Imtisangla.
