Oting massacre: Student bodies in Tamil Nadu extend solidarity

The All Tamil Nadu Students’ Association (ATNSA), Students’ Union of University of Madras (SUUM), Naga Students’ Union Chennai (NSUC) and NCF Chennai jointly conducted a condolence programme for the innocent victims of the Oting massacre at the main campus of University of Madras on Thursday.

In a press release, NSUC informed that during the programme, advisor of All Tamil Nadu Students’ Association, Sunil and Students’ Union of University of Madras extended their condolences.

They also extended the support from the Tamil people to the bereaved family members and to the people of Nagaland.

Sunil condemned the atrocities of the Indian security forces and killing of innocent civilians in Nagaland and appealed for the immediate repeal of AFSPA from Nagaland.

Meanwhile, NSUC president Chibenthung addressed the gathering appealing for AFSPA to be repealed from Nagaland.

He said that it was a draconian law and this was not the first time it was being misused in Nagaland. 

Later, North East India Welfare Association Chennai president, Wapangtoshi who is also the NCF Chennai pastor strongly condemned the incident and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

He thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for always standing up for the North East people for the right cause and appreciated the greater Chennai city police for all the security arrangements for the programme.

The programme was attended by people from different communities residing in various parts of Chennai. This was followed by a candlelight service at the venue.

Lotha Hoho pays homage in Mon

Lotha Hoho from Wokha visited Mon and met with the Konyak Union (KU) officials accompanied by the Lotha Hoho Mon December 8.

According to a DIPR report, the purpose of the visit was to express its solidarity and pay homage to the people of Mon following the massacre.

Financial assistance was also handed over to the KU officials for the victims.
