On the occasion of World Environment Day, minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, C. L. John inaugurated Outung Nagar Van at Tamlu Headquarters, under Longleng Forest Division.
A DIRP report informed that during the event, the minister commended the efforts of the Longleng Forest Division and Sitap Range in carrying out environmental projects.
He urged the village council, church leaders, students, and the public to preserve the green space and treat it as their own, promoting sustainable conservation.
CL John emphasized the need to protect nature by banning hunting, reducing plastic pollution, and fostering compassion for wildlife. He reaffirmed the Nagaland government’s commitment under chief minister Neiphiu Rio to uplift communities through progressive initiatives. The gathering was addressed by Rongsenlemla Imchen, Conservator of Forests, Northern Territorial Council (NTC), and Dharmendra Prakash, principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), who briefed attendees on ongoing projects like the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) and JICA Project.
The event also featured a tree-planting ceremony led by the minister and other officials to mark World Environment Day.
The programme was chaired by Ailong Phom, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Longleng, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Rama Shankar Prasad, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Longleng, followed by a benediction by pastor Tamlu Bumeinok Baptist Church.
